Job Description

We deliver our customers the highest quality Internet, with speeds up to 1 Gig, Cable TV, and local and long-distance phone service. BeresfordTel also provides enterprise solutions including Hosted PBX and surveillance camera systems. Our Internet-Telephone/CATV technician will install, maintain, and troubleshoot residential and business customer premise equipment used in providing broadband, telephone and TV services. Technicians will also install fiber and network interface devices including but not limited to ONTs and subscriber routers, provide support and maintenance of network and CATV equipment, and perform initial wiring or rewiring for new subscriber systems. Technicians in this position must possess a thorough understanding of general aspects of the job.

This position requires the ability to complete work on an individual basis and to participate as a member of a team to complete tasks and engage in problem solving activities.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • · Provide maintenance and support of all company services provided over fiber and coax facilities.

  • · Perform or assist with the installation, service and repair of all equipment, facilities, and customer premise equipment required to provide subscriber services from the company.

  • · Perform the installation of drop wires, fiber, coaxial cable, and network interface devices.

  • · Install buried cable using directional boring machine, trenching equipment, excavator, skid steer, etc.

  • · Terminate, splice and test fiber optic and coax cable utilizing appropriate equipment.

  • · Support the installation and maintenance of Hosted PBXs, surveillance camera systems, and other equipment.

  • · Contribute in all aspects to emergency fiber or coax cuts.

  • · Conduct locates of buried fiber and coax cables.

  • · Demonstrate exceptional communications, customer service skills, technical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively operate tools necessary to perform job duties.

  • · Perform after-hours maintenance and respond to after-hours calls and emergencies.

  • · Ensure company vehicles are clean, well stocked with tools, materials, and inventory.

  • · Maintain inventory of stock for telephone, internet, and cable TV department. Inform appropriate personnel when supplies need to be ordered.

  • · Display a positive and professional appearance and work attitude.

  • · Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities

  • · Thorough knowledge of Coax RF equipment, Adtran, Ribbon C15, and other vendors.

  • · Technical experience with fiber, VoIP, and Hosted PBX systems.

  • · Good technical and troubleshooting skills are a must.

  • · Ability to read/interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, etc.

  • · Working knowledge of Windows based computer equipment, including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • · Ability to safely use ladders, trenching equipment, and other associated construction equipment.

  • · Must be detail oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • · Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.

  • · The physical demands of this position require standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, walking, the ability to lift at least 50lbs, and working from heights 15ft or above.

  • · Employee must be able to work in an outdoor environment year-round in all weather conditions.

  • · Must demonstrate a positive attitude in a rapidly changing industry.

  • · Knowledge of company products and services.

  • · Ability to set priority of tasks according to urgency.

  • · Ability to maintain accurate, up-to-date records.

 

Education and Experience

  • · High School diploma or equivalent.

  • · 8+ years of experience in the Telecommunications field preferred.

  • · Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Networking, or similar degrees preferred.

  • · Certifications in fiber, Internet Protocol (IP), networking and applicable industry hardware and software applications preferred.

  • · Possess and maintain a valid and insurable South Dakota driver's license.
