Communications Technician

Our communications technician will install, maintain, and troubleshoot residential and business customer premise equipment used in providing broadband, telephone and TV services. Our technicians install fiber and network interface devices including but not limited to ONTs and subscriber routers, provide support and maintenance of network and CATV equipment, and perform initial wiring or rewiring for new subscriber systems.

This position requires the ability to complete work on an individual basis and to participate as a member of a team to complete tasks and engage in problem solving activities.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide maintenance and support of all company services provided over fiber and coax facilities.

  • Perform or assist with the installation, service and repair of all equipment, facilities, and customer premise equipment required to provide subscriber services from the company.

  • Perform the installation of drop wires, fiber, coaxial cable, and network interface devices.

  • Install buried cable using directional boring machine, trenching equipment, excavator, skid steer, etc.

  • Terminate, splice and test fiber optic and coax cable utilizing appropriate equipment.

  • Support the installation and maintenance of Hosted PBXs, surveillance camera systems, and other equipment.

  • Contribute in all aspects to emergency fiber or coax cuts.

  • Conduct locates of buried fiber and coax cables.

  • Demonstrate exceptional communications, customer service skills, technical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively operate tools necessary to perform job duties.

  • Perform after-hours maintenance and respond to after-hours calls and emergencies.

  • Display a positive and professional appearance and work attitude.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Coax RF equipment, Adtran, Ribbon C15, and other vendors preferred.

  • Technical experience with fiber, VoIP and Hosted PBX systems preferred.

  • Good technical and troubleshooting skills are a must.

  • Ability to read/interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, etc.

  • Working knowledge of Windows based personal computer equipment, including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to safely use ladders, trenching equipment and other associated construction equipment.

  • Must be detail oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.

  • The physical demands of this position require standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, walking, the ability to lift at least 50lbs, and working from heights 15ft or above.

  • Employee must be able to work in an outdoor environment year-round in all weather conditions.

  • Individual must demonstrate a positive attitude in a rapidly changing industry.

 

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Three years of experience in the Telecommunications field preferred.

  • Preference given to candidates with a degree in Telecommunications, Computer Networking, or similar degrees.

  • Certifications in fiber, Internet Protocol (IP), networking and applicable industry hardware and software applications preferred.

  • Possess and maintain a valid and insurable South Dakota driver's license.

General Manager Assistant

Our General Manager Assistant will assist the General Manager in designated areas of the telephone, cable and Internet management and service. This position requires the ability to multi-task several projects and tasks while working in a fast-paced environment. The right candidate must be able to complete work on an individual basis and to participate as a member of a team to complete tasks and engage in problem solving activities.  

 

Essential Job Functions 

·         Keep abreast of regulatory and tariff changes   

·         Update rates in billing software as changes occur 

·         Prepare federal, state & local regulatory reports & filings for certification 

·         Ensure that settlements, pooling & access revenues are maintained & related information is accurately reported to                    appropriate agencies 

·         Review Consolidated Access Billing (CABS) & CABS related functions to ensure accuracy as to IXCs providing                        services 

·         Oversee & perform all aspects of end-user billing: generate & complete service orders, post other charges & credits,                 transmit monthly billing, review billing for accuracy, work with end-users on billing issues & overdue accounts 

·         Work with Lifeline customers: process applications, insert customer information into national data base to ensure                      eligibility; submit annual certification to determine continued eligibility  

·         Participate in long & short-range work plans with General Manager 

·         Detailed knowledge of billing reports necessary for report filings, pricing of services, budget development. 

·         Responsible for changes & updates to Plant area of billing software  

·         Develop marketing plans, to include designing marketing pieces & newsletters, sales & promotions of services 

·         Work with billing software vendor to improve billing processes and find solutions to billing problems 

·         Work closely with consultants and various government agency contacts on regulatory reporting 

·         Act as designated Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) Officer to ensure security of customer accounts.                Submit annual certification 

·         Development of department policies and procedures 

·         Evaluate pricing of products & services, and make recommendations as needed 

·         Provide customer service to include selling of services, assistance with billing and/or service questions, technical                       support within capabilities or routing technical issues to appropriate technician 

·         Design of Telephone Directory: compile information pages, cover page, residential & business directory listings, and                   work closely with publisher for annual printing of book 

·         Display a positive and professional appearance and work attitude. 

·         Perform other duties as assigned.
